Today, the FCC has announced the results of the world’s first broadcast incentive auction. By making valuable “low-band” airwaves available for wireless mobile use, the FCC intends to ease the congestion of wireless networks, preparing for the arrival of the fifth generation (5G) network wireless services and applications, including Internet of Things (IoT) applications, which would promote considerable economic growth. Wireless carriers bit $19.8 billion for 70 MHz of spectrum for mobile use. T-mobile, Dish, and Comcast are among the largest winners in the auction. See this FCC document for all the auction winners.
